The DCLS (Diesels) approach works best when you take it from start to end. Even if you know pentatonics and/or Major scales, you might want to solidify your foundations and apply the system to easier concepts first.

DCLS 1 - will introduce you to the system and fix any spots on the fretboard where major and minor pentatonics are more obscure, and build connections among boxes. We will use an improved CAGED system that will stay with us through major scales, modes, and beyond.  

DCLS 2 - will teach you major scales and how to identify keys and key changes in chord progressions. Besides the scales, this is an important step to understand what to play where, and I tried to make it very easy for you. 

DCLS 3 - will help you understand Modes and how they're really used in modern music. We will use the same Pentatonic/Major scale boxes we already know (super easy) but we will change the angle on them to get that great modal sound!

I know the pentatonic and Major scale, why should I start from pentatonics?

  • It is possible that you know the scale boxes but not as in depth as you would with DCLS system.
  • Learning Pentatonics and major scales with DCLS helps you visualize them much faster on the fretboard
  • This course also teaches you to understand what key a chord progression is in, therefore what scale to play
  • The full course also explains how to deal with key changes, a very challenging subject

What does DCLS mean?

DUAL CAGED LAYERED SYSTEM - and it's pronounced Diesels

What is DCLS?

DCLS it's a complete improvisation system that starts from pentatonic scales and works its way up to modes. It's an improvement of the CAGED system. There are a few areas where CAGED is a bit uneffective, especially on minor scales and DCLS fixes that. But unlike CAGED, DCLS is designed to work with modes as well.
It's modular, so you will have only 10 basic boxes, and everything else will build on these just by changing a few notes. 
This is unique and speeds up the process of understanding scales and modes, recognising them on the fretboard and learning their sound. 

Is it better than CAGED? 

CAGED has limits, especially in minor keys. The Diesels system builds on CAGED but improves its effectiveness, making finding pentatonics, major and minor scales, including modes...a piece of cake.
